Bob’s story is very similar to Johnny Carson’s. They both were coloring their hair (Johnny started when he was in his early 40’s) but it was becoming a chore, having it done every couple of weeks. So once, around 1969-70 when he was returning from vacation, he decided to with it, and showed up to the studio with a lot of grey. And was very honest about it on that night’s show.
